Horton Highschool presents "SuperFreaks" by Scott Hann. Please come out and support these awesome kids. When: Thursday March 31st @ 7 PM, Saturday April 2nd @ 7 PM, and Sunday April 3rd @ 1:30 PM. Back row - Julie Crismas , Troy Davis, Issac Yaussi, Angelina Thomas Front row- Jesse McGinnis, Emmily Johnson, Julia Lehew, Malinda Crismas, Desiree Madere, Chandler Newman Lois Lancaster is a big-city journalist writing about the current state of mental health facilities. Her research takes her to a hospital populated with a unique group of quirky inmates who imagine they are crime-fighting superheroes. Speed Freak thinks he can run at incredible speeds, while Dim Bulb, the most enthusiastic person on the face of the earth, thinks he has the ability to turn off lights with his brain. Mental thinks she can read minds, despite being prone to sudden outbursts of bizarre non-sequiturs. Kevin, much less quirky and flamboyant than the other inmates, doesn’t embarrass himself with a ridiculous code name or costume...at least, not initially. Dr. Gail Eisner appears to be a kindly hospital administrator, a steady influence needed to effectively run a madhouse like this one. At first Lois finds their elaborate superhero fantasies to be an entertaining diversion, the wild delusions of unstable minds, until something unusual happens that makes her wonder.

The Kansas State Department of Education is looking for feedback. At the June 2021 Kansas State Board of Education meeting, Commissioner of Education Randy Watson announced the establishment of a Graduation Requirements Task Force, which include members of the State Board of Education, business leaders, curriculum directors, high school principals, counselors, teachers, KSHSAA, local boards of education and superintendents, charged with examining graduation requirements in Kansas from at least three different lenses: Additional courses or deletion of courses required for graduation (if any). Examination of competencies and multiple ways to show mastery of skills which allow students to move at their own pace and time. Examination of any additional requirements in addition to the high school diploma (value-added assets such as industry recognized certificate, college credits, etc.) Today, we’re asking for your feedback to help guide the work of this group. Please use the QR code to complete a short survey regarding your thoughts on Kansas’ high school graduation requirements. The deadline to submit feedback is April 15.
