HHS College American History students recently completed a Design Thinking Challenge that require creating a board game to share their understanding of capitalism and the industrial revolution. Friday morning, Mr. Hirsch's students traveled to EMS to share their game with the 7th & 8th grade G/T students. It was a fun hour of game play. Students also discussed the benefits and responsibilities of taking college classes while in high school.

Today, USD 430 students got a real-world glimpse into their futures during our annual Reality U event!

Eighth graders and sophomores stepped into the shoes of adulthood for the day, discovering just how far a paycheck really goes. Each student earned a simulated salary based on GPA and, through an online survey, was assigned a spouse, children, and even pets. From there, reality set in! Students navigated monthly expenses, including mortgage or rent payments, groceries, insurance, transportation, and even unexpected “life events” — both good and bad — that can impact any budget.

This hands-on experience challenged students to make thoughtful financial decisions, prioritize needs over wants, and adjust when surprises came their way. It was eye-opening, engaging, and incredibly valuable.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing community members who showed up in force — staffing 12 life booths and guiding not only our students but also students from Kickapoo Nation School through this impactful experience. Your time, support, and encouragement make a lasting difference.

We are grateful for the strong community partnership we enjoy every day — and especially on days like today!
