A message from Head Football Coach Derek Richardson to all HHS parents -
This fall we are implementing something new to our program, Guardian Caps. These will be required to be worn for practices. Due to helmet warranty restrictions from our manufacturer, they cannot be worn during games. But their use in practice still plays a big role in promoting long-term player safety.
Guardian Caps are padded covers that fit over helmets and help reduce the impact of hits by up to 33%. They’re used by every NFL team and hundreds of college programs across the country. The NFL reported a 52% reduction of concussions during their 2024 season.
As a coaching staff and district, we’re committed to creating a football environment that prioritizes both player development and safety. We’re proud to implement enhanced practice habits that reflect the modern game, including a significant reduction in live tackling during practices. These updates are designed to give players and families greater peace of mind, while still delivering the competitive, team-first experience that makes football so valuable.
We’re committed to making football as safe as possible while preserving the toughness and teamwork that make the game the most watched/played sport in America. If you’ve been unsure about playing or signing up, now’s a good time to take another look.
