Christmas Break

Chargers Community:

Thank you for your continued support of our students, each other, and our communities during this fall semester. I hope this message finds you doing well.  Before we take a break for the holidays I wanted to share some updates happening around the district.

The student's last day for the semester will be December 20th and students will return on January 5, 2022.  During the break, we will have construction workers in and out of the buildings to finish up a few last items from our bond projects. We will be planning an open house in the near future so that you can tour the buildings and witness the improvements that were made.  Because of you and your support, our buildings are in great shape and will last a very long time.  I would like to share that when I compared electric and gas bills from last year to this year during the months of July-November the district saw a little over $10,000 in savings.  The updated energy-efficient HVAC System, along with the windows and doors have made a tremendous impact on the efficiency of our buildings' energy use.

During the December Board Meeting, the board approved the bid from Custom Sheet Metal to upgrade the HVAC system in the Activity Building at the high school, which will include the Kitchen/Commons Areas along with the Gym.  The total for this project is a little over $145,000 and will be paid using the $150,000 KDHE Grant that we received earlier this year.  With this grant, we are able to provide free take-home Covid Tests for community members, students, and parents.  If you would like to have some testing kits at your house prior to the Christmas break please contact a nurse at any of the buildings. During the board meeting, the Board of Education approved changes in Policy AHA and AHB. The board accepted the updated policies from KASB, which included some revisions along with a new policy.  The updated policies can be found on board docs under the December 2022 Agenda.  Also, a policy for Narcan was approved.  Please take a few minutes to read the board minutes which can be found on our district website, www.usd430.org.

I want to wish each and every one of you a restful, and relaxing holiday season.

Stay warm, stay safe, and please know how much we appreciate your sharing your child with us.  I am looking forward to the opportunities and new adventures that will be experienced in 2023!

Sincerely,

Jason Cline
