November News

Good Afternoon Charger Family:

With the recent snowfall and the cooler temperatures that we have experienced recently, I felt it would be a great time to remind everyone that in case of school closure due to unsafe winter weather conditions or roadways an announcement will be posted on the USD 430 Facebook Page, on the district website, on 103.9, WIBW,  KSNT News and a text alert will be sent out.  You can sign up for text alerts by visiting the district website and clicking on the Community Notification Sign Up that is located on the top banner.  Depending on the weather forecast and situation I will do my best to announce school closings as soon as possible to allow families to make adjustments to their daily schedules, however; there are times when decisions need to be made that may be an inconvenience if you do not have other arrangements planned ahead of time.  I would encourage all families to have prearranged plans for school closures for the following scenarios:

  1. School Closure announcements made the night before.

  2. School Closure announcements made by 6:30 AM

  3. Earlier Dismissal from school during the day

  4. Planning for a late start, 2 hours delay.

We are quickly wrapping up all the construction from the bond projects.  You may see a few workers at each building over the next few weeks as construction workers finalized projects at each facility.  Over the Thanksgiving Break, construction workers will be at the high school painting the interior window trim, while replacing or making adjustments to the windows and doors at all the buildings.  During the Christmas Break, we are scheduled for installments of window shades for each school building.  The improvements that have been made towards the facilities of USD 430 have been well received and make a huge difference in the learning environment for our students and staff.  We thank you for the community support and for investing in the lives of all the children that will attend USD 430 South Brown County!

USD 430 was recently awarded $150,000 through KDHE  (Kansas Department of Health and Environment) to improve the High School's HVAC System in the Activity Building.  With the grant, we can provide take-home covid testing kits to any family who requests.  If you are interested in learning more about the take-home covid testing kits please contact your child’s school nurse.

Planning for the future, this year we will be finalizing the end of our 5-year strategic plan.  Last week during the board meeting the board discussed moving forward and planning for another 5 years.  We will send out more information in the upcoming months as we will request community feedback for the future of USD 430!

On November 15th, students in grades 3-12 were introduced to the TeamMates Mentoring Program.  That evening about 30 community members along with the TeamMates Advisory Board and DeMoine Adams, CEO of TeamMates to learn about becoming a mentor for our students. TeamMates is a school-based mentoring program that positively impacts the world by inspiring students to reach their full potential through mentoring.  Mentors and mentees meet once a week in a school to build long-lasting friendships.  Match meetings can last 30 minutes to an hour and are scheduled through our program coordinator Becky Wahwasuck. I would encourage you to take some time and visit the TeamMates website at teammates.org or you can contact Mrs. Wahwasuck at any of the school buildings.

Thank you for your continued support of USD 430 South Brown County.  I am always open to suggestions or comments on anything about school.  Feel free to give me a call, email, or stop by the Board of Education Office.

Sincerely,

Jason Cline
