Dear Horton Elementary Families,
I hope you have had a wonderful summer and are as excited as we are to begin a new school year! On behalf of our entire staff, I want to extend a warm welcome to both our returning families and those joining Horton Elementary for the first time. We are committed to providing every child with a high-quality education that nurtures academic growth, fosters social-emotional learning, and inspires a love of lifelong learning. Our building is filled with caring teachers and staff who are eager to create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for all students.
We believe the best education happens when school and home work together, and we look forward to forming a strong partnership with you this year. Here are a couple announcements regarding the new school year.
Back-to-School Night – Tuesday, August 12th
Join us from 4:30–6:00 PM to meet your child’s teacher, drop off school supplies, and get a head start on an amazing year. At the same time, our playground will be filled with fun! From 4:30–7:00 PM, enjoy bouncy houses, popcorn, and a photo booth to capture those first-week memories.
Class Lists
Classroom assignments will be posted on PowerSchool by the end of the day on Friday, August 8th.
First Day of School – Wednesday, August 13th
Our school day runs from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Doors open at 7:30 AM for students who wish to eat breakfast before class begins. Supervised walk and talk will be on the playground for students arriving prior to classroom dismissal.
Dismissal will be at 11:15 am and 3:25 for PreKindergarten. Kindergarten will also dismiss at 3:25 so they get a little bit of a head start before the older students get outside. These two grade levels will be located in front of the building with their teacher. All other grade levels will be dismissed at 3:30. Classes will be located along the front of the building, from the front lawn to the playground entrance, in the same place each day for easier pick up. We require students to check out with their teacher prior to leaving.
This year promises to be filled with growth, learning, and wonderful experiences for your child. Thank you for trusting us with their education. We can’t wait to welcome our Chargers back and begin another fantastic year together! As always, if you have any questions, please contact us at 785-486-2616.
Looking forward to a great year!
