![]() Each month, Horton High School, will select a student-athlete of the month. These students selected show effort and excellence in the classroom and the field of play, dedication to the team, leadership, integrity, and the ability to serve as a role model for current and future Horton High School student-athletes. Students selected must:
Male Student-Athlete of the Month: Michael Gabbard Michael excels in the classroom and in the weight room. The month of March featured the two most crucial powerlifting meets of the year, JCN (featuring only league opponents) and the 2A State Competition at McLouth. Michael lifts in the heavyweight division, consistently one of the toughest weight classes available. At JCN, Michael placed 1st in the hang clean and in squat. At the State Competition, Michael was the State Champion in squat and bench. His total weight in all three of his lifts was enough to name him the overall State Champion of the heavyweight division! Michael’s lifts were a crucial part in the boys team placing 2nd overall at state. Female Student-Athlete of the Month: Callie Hoobler Callie excels in the classroom and in the weight room. The month of March featured the two most crucial powerlifting meets of the year, JCN (featuring only league opponents) and the 2A State Competition at McLouth. Callie lifts in the 140 lb division. At JCN, Callie placed 1st in the hang clean and bench, as well as squat with a new overall meet record; naming her the overall champion. At the State Competition, Callie once again named the State Champion in the hang clean, bench, and squat; naming her the overall State Champion. Callie’s lifts were a crucial part of the girls team placing 3rd overall at state.
