![]() During the last regular season basketball game on February 24, 2017, fans and players took time out to help honor Pat McAfee as he was awarded the 1st ever Northeast Kansas League Outstanding Service Award. This award was created to honor those retired or retiring league administrators who provided exceptional service to the NEKL and other leagues in which they were involved. Mr. McAfee has served the area schools for over 40 years as a teacher, coach, activities director and administrator, providing outstanding service and leadership to those area schools and leagues. Because of his commitment to provide the best possible services to students, schools and associated leagues, the Northeast Kansas League chose to present George “Pat” McAfee with the 1st ever Northeast Kansas League Outstanding Service Award. Nomination for this distinguished award was made by Dave Norman, Horton Principal and Northeast Kansas League President. In his nomination, Mr. Norman cited that Pat would go out of his way to help out the league with any schedule or venue changes needed and would help with any event in whatever capacity needed. His insight, experience and organizational skills were instrumental in outstanding management of league, sub-state and regional events. Helping with the presentation of the plaque identifying his outstanding service to the league was Mark Ross, Horton HS Activities Director as well as Pat’s granddaughter, Kaitlyn McAfee, a Horton High Junior and basketball team member. Congratulations Pat!!!!!

Pat McAfee contributed a lot to the sports scene. He deserved all the recognition that he got. I'm really happy for this award, because he rightfully deserved it. Hopefully, more people follow his footsteps in the sports industry. I also want to congratulate Pat for getting the award and I'm really proud of him.
