An Interview With The Horton Charger Volleyball Coaches

By Tatum Lockwood

The Lady Chargers volleyball season is flying by. I got to speak with the Coaches, Kristin Fassnacht and Kerrie Howard, and get their opinion on how they think the season is going thus far. They told me what they hope to see throughout the second half of our season. Coach Fassnacht said she’s impressed with the varsity girls’ overall team chemistry: “They are constantly lifting each other up and giving each other constructive criticism.” Coach Howard is also very pleased with the junior varsity team work and feels they have improved a lot so far on their communication and their ability to play multiple positions. She cannot wait to see how much further they improve their abilities as the season progresses. The freshman team traveled to an Atchison tournament on Saturday, September 24th and earned first place. Both Coach Fassnacht and Coach Howard agreed that they had stumbled early in the season but now everything is coming together. They plan on beating difficult teams in the second half of the season and finishing the season strong. They both agree that they cannot wait to see how the season will end up. The goal of the Varsity team is to make it to sub-state. The coaches and players are ready to finish off the season on a great note! They hope to see lots of Charger support.

Varsity Volleyball Tournament in Hiawatha

By: Tatum Lockwood

On September 17, 2016 the Varsity Volleyball team traveled to Hiawatha to play in a volleyball tournament. They played Lafayette High School, Immaculata High School (Imac), Jefferson County North High School (JCN) and Doniphan West High School (D-West). For first game the Lady Chargers were ready to play, as they took the St. Joseph school, Lafayette, to three matches and had their first win of the day. The next two matches were against Imac and JCN. Both games the Lady Chargers played well, but had some struggles and lost. After playing three games in a row, the Lady Chargers were tired, but not close to being ready to give up on the fourth game of the day against D-West. The Lady Chargers played hard and won against Doniphan West High School in two matches. Even though The Lady Chargers did not get out of pool play, they played well by sticking together and working as a team.
