Scholars Bowl has begun the 2016 season. Varsity and junior varsity traveled to JCN on October 20, and junior varsity traveled to Sabetha on October 24. Students at both meets answered questions in the categories of social studies, language arts, math, science, fine arts, miscellaneous, and year in review. The categories are extremely broad in nature. Math questions can ask students to use algebra, geometry, trigonometry, or calculus. Science questions can focus on biology, chemistry, physical science, and human anatomy. Language arts can focus on sentence structure, authors, poetry, novels, and grammar. Fine arts include dance, musicals, operas, music terms, various art forms, and art terms. Both teams have a wide knowledge base that continues to grow as the teams study and work together to improve weekly.
Varsity team members include seniors Gavin Chriss, Melissa King, and Rylee Rodvelt, juniors Eduardo Gallardo and Brianna Davis, and sophomore Kennedy Richardson. The junior varsity team members are sophomores Haden Cooper and Isaiah Cortes, and freshmen Kyle Hammersmith, Tatum Lockwood, Nevaeh Mitchell, Grete Olson, and Alex Stirton.
The varsity team travels to Nemaha Central on October 31 for a 4 p.m. meet. Horton High School will host our tournament on November 3 starting at 4 p.m. Please come out and support our scholars bowl team as they demonstrate their academic knowledge in a plethora of categories.
