Horton High School recognized student-athletes for their academic excellence on February 14th at half-time of the boy’s varsity game against Oskaloosa. The organizations recognized were Kansas State High School Activities Association sponsored teams. These students earned a collective GPA in their organization of 3.25-4.0 during the fall semester. The organizations included: Volleyball (Head Coach, Kristin Fassnacht & Assistant Coach, Kerrie Howard), Cheer (Sponsor, Janelle Cowley), Kay Club (Sponsor, Margaret Krogmann) and the Dance Team (Sponsor, Christie Woods)
The Kansas Volleyball Association has also selected Horton High School Varsity Volleyball team for the All-Academic Team Award. To be eligible to receive the individual All-Academic award, individual players must be a varsity letter winner from the previous season and have a minimum GPA of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale, for classes taken during the first semester of the current school year. Horton High School has received the All-Academic Team Award with a combined average GPA of 3.94. Seven individuals from Horton High School also received individual All-Academic awards, all being name to the First Team. Those individuals include Kylie Hutfles, Abby Ross, Kristin Becker, Daspin Bruning, Callie Hoobler, Camryn Lowe, and Tatum Lockwood. Congratulations to all of these students! Each month, Horton High School, will select a student-athlete of the month. These students selected show effort and excellence in the classroom and the field of play, dedication to the team, leadership, integrity, and the ability to serve as a role model for current and future Horton High School student-athletes. Students selected must:
Cole excels in the classroom and on the court. In the month of January, Cole shot 58% from the field averaging 8.5 points per game. Cole also averaged 8 rebounds per game and has 7 steals in the month, as well as being perfect from behind the three point line. Female Student-Athlete of the Month: Daspin Bruning Daspin excels in the classroom as well as on the court. In the month of January, Daspin has averaged 14.5 points per game as well as 9.5 rebounds per game. The month has been highlighted by her performances in the Hiawatha Invitational where she netted 19, 15, & 15 points in the three games of the tournament. |
